By James Finch Summary: In the face of Asian competition and possible supply shocks to the uranium market, UxC president Jeff Combs urges U.S. utilities to support the expansion of production in the United States. He believes theres a good chance for $50/pound uranium this year. Any shock to supply could send prices much, much higher. StockInterview: How would you sum up the uranium market right now? Jeff Combs: Theres a very tight supply/demand situation that exists now for deliveries over the next several years. If you were going out today to buy uranium for 2007, 2008, and 2009, theres not that much available supply. The supply/demand balance is very tight, and I think thats going to be reflected in prices continuing to rise for a while as utilities seek to fill demand for those delivery years. Since most contracting in uranium is done on a term basis, youre always looking out several years. By the time you reach 2009, for example, youre looking to fill needs in 2012 and beyond. By that time, supply might have responded sufficiently, or even over-responded. Of course, whether or not the supply/demand balance is tighter then depends on how nuclear power expansion is progressing at that point and what happens with respect to the HEU deal. But, in the meantime, production will have had more time to react to higher prices, and this could alleviate some of the supply/demand pressures. StockInterview: How are escalating market-related contracts impacting the uranium price? Jeff Combs: Its pretty much a sellers market right now. You have escalating floor prices that are maybe not too much lower than the current spot price. If you have ceiling prices, theyll be much higher than the current price, and those will also escalate. In some cases, you dont even have ceiling prices. In rare cases, you dont have either ceiling or floor prices. Most producers are looking to sign market-related contracts and not fix the price even on an escalated basis in the future, although they would want floor protection. To a large extent, the utilities dont have too much choice in the matter except to wait and hope that the competitive landscape changes in the future. However, in many cases they need to procure uranium now and cant afford to wait. Thus, they must accept what is being offered. StockInterview: Do you continue to see a speculative frenzy in the market? Jeff Combs: Theres still some speculative activity in the market, but I wouldnt call it so much a frenzy. The importance of this speculative buying has been somewhat over-blown. Total hedge fund/investor volume to date is about 11 million pounds. This buying started towards the end of 2004. The bulk of it was during 2005, and it has continued into this year. It will be much less over the first part of this year versus the first part of 2005; about a half a million pounds so far this year versus 5.5 million pounds through May of 2005. There is probably too much emphasis put on the role of hedge funds or investment funds in the market. If you look at the market, the price especially the long term contract prices has been leading the spot price up. The speculators really arent involved in that part of the market. Over the same time the hedge funds/investor funds were buying, youve probably had a third of a billion pounds transacted under long-term contracts. If you go forward several years from now, you see a very tight supply/demand situation in the market. If you wanted a pure base-escalated contract, the base price for this might be close to $50 today, a good bit higher than the spot price and about a third or so higher than the long-term price at the beginning of the year. StockInterview: Weve been led to believe the HEU deal with Russia will not be renewed. What is your feeling? Jeff Combs: You need to consider how much things have changed from when the current HEU deal was signed. At that time, the Russian economy was struggling, as was Russias nuclear power program. Now Russias economy is much more robust, thanks to energy exports. Russia is experiencing a nuclear power renaissance of its own. From this perspective, I think its quite unlikely that the HEU deal will be renewed. When I say that, Im referring to the deal between an agent acting for the Russian Government and an agent acting for the U.S. Government. I dont think that necessarily means that there will not be any HEU blended down after the current deal is over, but that could be done for internal consumption in Russia or be used as supply for countries where Russia is exporting fuel for Russian-supplied reactors. StockInterview: The trading volume on the spot uranium market has fallen off after what transpired in 2005. Jeff Combs: The volume now is certainly less than what it was last year. Volume so far for the year is 6.3 million pounds on the spot market. If this rate were maintained, it would put volume close to 20 million pounds for the year. This would make it more of a typical market in terms of volume from the standpoint of recent history before 2005. Whether or not volume is higher than this depends a lot on the extent to which utilities that are out in the long term market, right now, are able to get offers to cover requirements in 2007, 2008, and 2009. If theyre not successful, they might come back into the spot market. That could boost spot buying somewhat later in the year. Also, some producers have been buying on the spot market. If this buying picks up, it could add to volume as well StockInterview: Do you believe were going to see $50/pound uranium in the near term? Jeff Combs: Oh yes, I think theres a good chance that well see $50 per pound uranium this year, more likely in terms of long term contracts. I think the highest prices may be reached within the next couple of years. I think thats when supply will be the tightest. In our uranium market report, we develop three price scenarios a base case, a high-price case, and a low-price case. Price spikes or overshoots its long-run equilibrium in all three scenarios. In the high case, which would be the most dramatic spike, I would say it would be somewhere in the $60 - $70 range. Price certainly could be higher than this if the wheels come off the wagon. I think youre definitely looking at price going into the $50s. Its not too difficult to see a scenario where price goes into the $60s. And then it would come down from there. StockInterview: What goes up must come down? Jeff Combs: I dont think these higher prices are sustainable in the long term. You also have the situation now where utilities are going out to buy uranium, and theyre not finding what they want over the 2007-2009 period. It might be the case that some of these newer producers, or producers in the process of expanding production, really arent in a position to offer the supplies in those years. Ultimately, they will have the supply to offer in maybe 2009 or 2010. Since theyre not offering it right now, price can be pushed up a fair amount, setting up the possibility for a correction in a few years when more of these supplies become available to the market. In the short term, uranium supply and demand are very inelastic. This sets up the potential for an explosive response in price, as witnessed by the recent behavior in price. I have to admit weve had to adjust our price projections upwards on more than one occasion. StockInterview: What would be on your checklist of shocks to the market or the wheels coming off the wagon? Jeff Combs: What weve pointed out for a while is that you have the vast bulk of supply coming from a few major production centers and blended-down HEU. If you have a problem with any one of those, it can have a large impact on the market. Obviously, weve already had problems at Olympic Dam and McArthur River, and now Cigar Lake, even before it gets into production. If you have problems at any of these in the future, or at Rossing or Ranger, its going to impact the market. If you had some problem with the HEU deal between U.S. and Russia, it could have a devastating impact on the market. In the past, these problems have been caused by fire and floods, but other factors such as trade policies or the shortage of equipment could negatively impact supplies going forward. StockInterview: But then why did the Cigar Lake delay seem to pass by unnoticed? Jeff Combs: It hasnt seemed to have gotten a lot reaction in the market. I think it depends on how people look at it. Ive heard somebody say, Well, it just means that it just takes 2.5 million pounds of production out of the market because it gets delayed 6 months. Unless Cameco increases the rate at which it ramps up Cigar Lake, then its going to take more than 2.5 million pounds out of the market, because its not going to get to its desired production level until half a year later. Production will be lower in the intervening years, as well. The problem is that this delay in production is coming at a time when supplies are very tight in the market, the 2007-2009 timeframe. I think it could also impact the market by increasing the levels of inventories held because you really dont know when the next flood or next problem is going to occur. Until production expands more, any shock to supply could send prices much, much higher. StockInterview: What should U.S. utilities do to protect their supply channels in the face of possible market shocks and especially in light of the aggressive Asian appetite for uranium? Jeff Combs: Thats a good question. I think that U.S. utilities should support the expansion of production in the United States, in addition to maintaining their supply channels to major uranium producing countries, or perhaps developing them in the case of Kazakhstan. I think its more of a case that U.S. utilities should look at what all their options are, try to stimulate additional supply options, and in the process promote domestic production. Right now the market is fairly concentrated. There are not a lot of suppliers. While foreign utilities havent been, to date, looking at the U.S. as a supply source, they also have a desire to promote supply diversity, and could look to the U.S. for supply in the future. StockInterview: To be blunt, are U.S. utilities going to get caught with their pants down, at some point during this decade? Jeff Combs: If you had some kind of supply interruption or shock as we were talking about before, certainly that would create problems, not just for U.S. utilities, but for any utilities that were uncovered or have contract payment terms that relate to the market price with no real ceiling price protection. If you have really aggressive nuclear expansion in China, if India is allowed to play in the market, and if Russia goes ahead with its reactor expansion program, this makes the chances of price getting out of control somewhat greater down the road. Weve been warning of these issues for a while. I clearly dont think were out of the woods yet. When I say that were not out of the woods yet, I still believe that some utilities may be putting too much faith in current prices in that they believe that the now higher prices will take care of the problem of future supplies. While higher prices will certainly stimulate more production, I think that you must ask the question whether these prices are the antidote for the supply problem, or whether they are more a symptom of a severe deficit of supply that the market is facing. The answer to this probably determines how proactive utilities will be in securing future supplies. You have to do a lot of praying and run those wedding vows through your head about a dozen times each day “for better or worse, in sickness and in health”. If you really meant those at the time that you said them then that means that they are for life. Major depression is a serious illness that can be crippling some days for those that have it. It comes with mood swings, sometimes violent, states of dark depression, loss of interest in things that the person used to enjoy, loss of sleep, changes in appetite, thoughts of suicide and more unpleasant things, both for the person suffering and for those around them. There are medications that these individuals can take, but, like all depression drugs, these come with side effects that can be very unpleasant as well. Nausea, Diarrhea, Constipation, loss of sex drive, ect are just a few of the possible symptoms that this person may suffer from. Also, many of these drugs are only effective on about seventy percent of the people that take them and only partially helpful in some of those individuals. Major depression, unlike other forms of depressive disorders, can last for months and may never completely go away. It can get “better” to a point, but, unfortunately, many people never completely recover. If you are living with a spouse with major depression you need to be patient, seek medical attention, be attentive and loving, but don’t become a crutch or servant to your spouse. Love, honor, cherish and do your best to understand, but you must find a happy medium and give yourself time away every day in order to maintain your own mental health. Contracts that Work - So Sue Me!

By Tom Hall While music to a lawyers ears, at least to his wallet, this phrase should make every business person cringe. Litigation absorbs time and money, often astonishing amounts of both. Worse, it signals a major breach in what is presumably a valuable relationship. Worst of all, it means the business problem the contract was meant to address has not been solved. Instead of one problem and a plan to resolve it, you now have two, neither of which will add to your bottom line. Avoiding such a situation requires time, thought and some effort, but all are a worthwhile investment if they produce a transaction that moves forward smoothly and efficiently. Lets explore some of the common causes of deal failure: The vendor is dishonest. (Customers may also be dishonest, but that raises issues outside the scope of this essay.) In some ways, this situation is the easiest to deal with. The more blatant the vendors misconduct, the easier it is to pull the plug and look for an alternative vendor. Time and money will still be lost, but the customer who acts promptly will at least limit his or her losses. If the vendor is dishonest, but conceals it well, is incompetent yet earnest, customer may attempt to nurse the project along, allowing losses to mount. (Of course, a vendor who is honest but in over his head may eventually admit the fact and negotiate a buy out, thereby avoiding the need for either side to proclaim So Sue Me.) Happily, genuine vendor dishonesty is relatively rare. More frequently the parties have almost complete power to avoid contractual disputes simply by negotiating and documenting their agreements thoroughly. That requires time and effort, and it requires each side to leave their comfort zone and ask What will happen if things go wrong. That question is contrary to the mindset deemed necessary to do the deal. Negotiators are trained to be positive, to get to yes and NOT to rock the boat. But really making sure that the deal will work requires recognition that things can, and probably will, go wrong. Problems fall into two general categories: the unforeseen and the unforeseeable. A good contract goes to great lengths to eliminate the unforeseen, and provides mechanisms to deal with the unforeseeable. The unforeseen is simply a polite name for the overlooked. Overlooking a key condition or a vital contingency is not a career enhancing exercise. While there are no sure and certain guarantees against oversights, there are safeguards that can substantially reduce the exposure: Take your time. Easier said than done in a world in which everything is needed yesterday. But which is more damaging a delay to get the project right or damage control when the project comes apart? Consider what a commitment to first at all costs did for General Custer. Do your homework. o What needs to be done? o When? o By whom? o What contingencies must be addressed? o HOW will they be addressed (and by whom)? o Which project/product features are must haves? o Are there key personnel who need to be identified? o Are there target dates? o Which of the targets are guideposts and which are central to successful completion? o If there are no target dates, why not? After all, time is money. o What is the business problem you are attempting to solve? o What are your standards for success? If you are not solving a specific and defined business problem, or meeting a specific need, why are you spending time and money on the project? If you cannot identify what will constitute success, why are you spending time and money on the project? This brings us back to take your time. If the project is so rushed that its fundamental goals have not been defined, trouble may not be far off. Play Devils advocate. o WILL this project solve the specified business problem? o What CAN go wrong? o How will you respond when things do go wrong? It is tempting to cut corners at this time. Planning to respond to problems is hard work. But failing to put in the necessary effort will simply invite one side or the other to proclaim, at the worst possible time: So sue me! Even the most thorough and searching project plan cannot anticipate all problems. Key personnel may leave abruptly. A third partys product may not arrive on time, or may not work as promised. Management may cut the budget. Business changes may render the project unnecessary, or may require substantial revisions. Enter the change control provisions, which can serve a number of useful purposes: Eliminate time wasted on finger-pointing Eliminate (or at least reduce) the possibility of one side taking undue advantage of the other Keeping the deal alive. But did you include change control provisions in the contract? Did you specify: Who will respond when problems arise? Who is authorized to amend the agreement? A problem escalation procedure? A dispute resolution procedure? Cost controls? Specific buy-out or exit mechanisms? Hard work? Yes. Boring work? Sometimes. Valuable work? How What We Drink Can Affect Our Weight and Health

By Vikki Scovell Hello Everyone, I thought that I would talk about what we drink. Everyone loves a long cool drink, but often we forget to think about how many calories and nutrients are in what we drink. The warm weather can leave us dehydrated, and it is important that we are all drinking lots of water, especially before we go to a class. There should be no risk to a healthy person of exercising in hot weather providing you make sure that you drink before, during and after exercise (water that is). Often we exercise and watch what we eat, but forget to add in the amount of calories that we consume through drinks. Someone left a delicious bottle of lemonade in my fridge last week, and as I havent had a fizzy drink in ages, I got very excited and drank the lot over the course of the day. I was horribly shocked as I glanced at the label as it went in the bin to realize that I had consumed over 1000 calories! That is at least 3 aerobics classes worth of calories, and yet it looked harmless and tasted so delicious. From now on I am back on the sparkling mineral water. As I look around me on the street and in our sports centers I see children walking along drinking from cans and cartons. A2001 report in The Lancet warned of a 60% risk of obesity for every can of high-sugar drink a child consumes each day. An average child in the UK consumes 15 high-sugar drinks each week. The best way to cut down the amount of simple sugars in your childs diet is to cut out these unhealthy drinking habits. Try dilute fruit juice (you can change the dilution slowly to give your child a chance to adapt) or fizzy water with a little fruit juice. Good quality squash should be saved for treats, and kept very weak. The best drink for your child is water, and you will be surprised how quickly they adapt to enjoying it. It is useful to note that even fresh fruit juice is high in natural sugar and can add to weight problems, also the body has difficulty digesting fruit juices and they should be watered down. Alcohol is high in calories (1g = 7kcal where as 1g of fat =9Kcal). In a perfect world, none of us would touch it, especially whilst following weight loss goals. However, in reality we all like a drink. It is important to keep your intake of alcohol under control - moderation is the key. While a 5 oz glass of wine per day at 100 calories may seem harmless enough, over two and a half weeks that’s approximately an extra 1,700 calories. This is equivalent to about a half a pound of body fat. That’s about 10 pounds of body fat, per year. The Royal College of Physicians recommends that alcohol consumption be no more than 21 units a week for men; 14 units a week for women. It is better for health to spread alcohol units (up to the maximum recommended) throughout the week, than to drink large amounts in a single day or weekend. Therefore women should aim to consume no more than 2 units a day; men 3 units a day. One unit of alcohol is the amount in half a pint of beer, a single (25ml) measure of spirit, a small glass (120ml) table wine, or a small glass (50ml) of fortified wine, such as sherry. It is easy to see how even a “moderate” consumption of alcohol can have a very serious impact on your daily calorie quota: 3 units of beer could amount to a total 345kcal, 2 units of wine 160kcal. Substitute your “alcopop” for a shot of spirit and a low calorie mixer - about a quarter of the calories! To add a healthy slant, try a single shot of spirits with some fresh fruit juices. Don’t be tempted to skip meals to allow for drinks, alcohol won’t satisfy your hunger. In fact, alcohol lowers blood sugar levels (it prevents sugar that is normally stored in the liver, as glycogen, from breaking down). A drop in blood sugar levels sends signals to the brain you are hungry. With alcohol in your system, willpower can go out of the window and the snack attacks kick in. Eating a proper meal before you go out will line your stomach and slow the rate at which alcohol absorbs into your bloodstream. Keeping you in control of how much you eat and drink. So the message is to enjoy a drink or two if you wish, but to support your body by eating before hand, drinking plenty of water, and not over-doing it. Having said that, college life is not without it’s stressful situations. Here are a few common causes of stress amongst college students. Possibly one of the biggest stressors for some college students is the considerable debt they will have to take on, in order to afford tuition fees, campus accommodation and textbooks. Quite often this is a source of great concern for a kid that is straight out of high school and may not be financially literate. Whilst the debt alone is stressful, the need to service this debt can cause the student to over-extend themselves. This might mean that they have to take on a second job or work long hours as an employee and a student at the same time. This could have knock on effects with the ability to concentrate on their studies which could lead to failure of their course. This scenario would prove stressful. Another common cause of stress is adapting to the new life they have suddenly landed into. In many ways this new found freedom can be a source of great joy and motivation, but it can also be stressful. For many it will be the first time they have lived outside the nurturing and protective security of the family unit. Their parents will have provided for them materially and will have set down boundaries on how to live. This no longer applies in college and one of the first tasks a student undertakes is to find an identity and effectively test the rules that were set out by their parents. The uncertainty and lack of identity is a common cause of stress. As a student becomes more established in college the stresses that affect them are related to succeeding in their educational objectives. There will be particularly stressful periods when they have to complete papers or cram for exams. Other causes of stress could be giving presentations and seminars on their subject. This could lead to spending long hours concentrating on the subject and letting other aspects of their lives slide. This loss of harmony in their lives could be stressful. As they get to the end of their college careers, the inevitable stress of preparing for the real or adult world is apparent. Such considerations like, finding a job, preparing and taking job interviews, potentially relocating, leaving their college friends can be stressful. While most of these concerns are well negotiated by most students, they can often create problems for some. Weight-loss through Cognitive Therapy

By James Krehbiel Often, individuals become obsessive with the weight-loss pattern. Weight-loss and weight maintenance can become a ritualistic, compulsive cycle. Charlie Whitfield, author and addictions expert calls the pattern the repetition cycle. Anxiety and depression mount, followed by the urge to eat, leading to self-indulgence, and ending with symptoms of self-blame and guilt. Then the cycle of abuse repeats itself. Paradoxically, those who follow an addictive quest to lose weight may actually end up sabotaging their own goals. Self-defeating thinking and behavior tend to perpetuate the cycle of unhealthy eating. No amount of exercise or nutritional support will address the need for individuals to learn to rationally respond to their maladaptive eating patterns. Unhealthy eaters are typically overwhelmed by self-blame. A downward spiral is set in motion by the way in which the person views himself. Unhealthy eaters will label themselves as being fat (whether they are or not), and will chastise themselves for not making progress in losing weight. Viewing oneself as an overweight louse is not an effective motivator for change. In fact, browbeating oneself for being less than perfect only intensifies the cycle of unhealthy eating abuse. Self-blame is a form of tyranny which keeps one stuck in the midst of the problem. Most unhealthy eaters experience thwarted anger. Rather than direct their resentment at the source of their difficulties, they self-sabotage by internalizing their anger and directing it toward themselves through unhealthy eating. They may feel frustrated by the conditional nature of a relationship, may have a family member who humiliated them about their weight, or experienced rejection through social betrayal. As confidence was stripped away, they developed a negative concept of self which fueled their unhealthy eating pattern. The self-blaming message is usually, I guess I really am a slob, so the best I can do is to continue to prove it to myself. Unhealthy eaters can untwist their maladaptive thinking and meet their weight goals by: Learning to rationally respond to negative thinking. For example, instead of saying, Ill never meet my weight goals, Im just worthless, one might say, Just relax and be patient, Rome wasnt built in a day. Identify cognitive distortions such as castastrophizing, labeling, personalizing, and black and white thinking. An example might be, If I cant lose 5 lbs. this week I might as well give up (black/white thinking). Instead of being unkind to yourself, talk to yourself the same compassionate way you would to a dear friend who is experiencing the same weight problem. Instead of assuming your negative thoughts are accurate, examine the evidence that supports your conclusions. If I dont lose 15 lbs., will people really think I am hopelessly obese? Instead of taking full responsibility for your weight problem, you can assess the many factors that may have contributed to it and address those issues with the support of others. Set a realistic agenda. Ask yourself, What would it be worth to me to stop my unhealthy eating? How hard am I willing to work on a rational solution? Evaluate weight maintenance progress based upon the process the effort you put in rather than the outcome. Your efforts are within your control, but the outcome may not. Substitute language that is less emotionally loaded. I shouldnt have eaten that extra helping can be redefined as, It would have been preferable if I hadnt eaten more. Often, people will expose themselves to a diet that will dramatically assist them in losing excessive weight only to have the weight return. Instead of quick fix diets, setting a realistic agenda for weight-loss is a more rational, thoughtful approach. A slow, gradual loss of weight helps us to more easily adjust to the psychological ramifications of body perception change. Weight-loss goals need to be established because we prefer the change, not because others want it for us. Feeling coerced to change, or sensing that others acceptance of us is conditional upon weight-loss will lead to resentment and a feeling of helplessness in our quest to change. Instead, we must vow to learn the difference between self-indulgence and self-respect and work to put self-kindness into our everyday experience and choose our relationships based upon these positive qualities. Weight loss is about majoring in the majors. Its not about how you butter your bread. Its about feeling good, getting out of self-blame, planning goals, changing ones life style, setting personal boundaries and getting involved. People who are unhappy with their life are more likely to self-indulge, to be compulsive and obsessive, and carry out other self-defeating behaviors as a means to ward off psychic pain. Making the courageous efforts to lose weight calls for a radical transformation in ones thinking. Because we are humans, we may all relapse, but the changes we make in our life can be imbedded in a new life style when we give our selves personal permission to change. There are no secrets to losing weight. It would be nice if there were a quick fix. We wish it and it is so! But like almost all struggles in life, this, too, takes hard work and commitment. From childhood, we are conditioned to believe that the only way we can change is when we are coerced. Therefore, we learn to mistrust our instincts and believe that if we give ourselves enough rope, well hang ourselves. Without exploring the psychological issues that may be triggering weight problems, most people will be doomed to repeat a pattern of self-defeating behavior. We must understand that we are more than the pleasure center of our brain. We are much more than the darkest side of our soul. Many may say that if I am not intolerant of my mistakes, how will I learn to motivate myself to change? However, real change only occurs when we learn to respect and value who we are with all of our faults. James P. By Janie Jonah Growing up is something we all have to face. This often brings with it the consequences that are not particularly welcome. Our biggest changes occur in our youth and in particularly during adolescence where we undergo, huge changes, not only physical but also emotional and psychological. This can be very overwhelming and difficult for teens to cope with. Particularly within the family setting the teen can feel isolated as he may very well feel he is going through these changes alone. This can affect his mood and so the risks of developing depression is heightened. Some of the factors that can contribute to a teenager developing depression are teens suffering from anxiety and those with learning difficulties or attention deficit disorder. Depression in teens can be difficult to diagnose as being moody is a very common symptom of adolescent development. With all these emotions building up inside, a teenager may find it embarrassing and feel ashamed to ask for help. They might also not be aware of the symptoms of depression and may not recognize that they have an illness that is actually very common and one for which there is a considerable amount of help available to sufferers of depression. Depression is a very serious illness and can result in attempts to take there own life as well as successfully committing suicide. The fact that anti-depressants are not recommended to people under the age of 18 means that teenagers are more at risk of committing suicide because anti-depressants can cause severe side-effects and are thus not suitable for people under the age of 18. Being vigilant and keeping a check on teens is very important as it is quite difficult to recognize depression in teens. Some of the symptoms of depression that you should keep in mind are teens talking about suicide of actions that are self-harming. A deterioration in performance at school as well as a problem with authority are also symptoms of depression in teens. Other factors that can contribute to poor performance at school are a lack of motivation and enthusiasm, a lack of concentration and forgetfulness, restlessness and agitation. Other factors that are often seen as an separate problem on their own, which many not realize that they can be a symptom or sign of a deeper problem are alcohol and drug abuse and problems with anger, and a lack of anger management skills. Which is understandable as youths have yet so much to learn about life. It can however, be relatively easy to pick up on teens that withdraw themselves, initially from their friends, and then past pleasurable activities along with changes to sleeping and eating routines. There are many other signs of depression that can indicate a deeper underlying cause of the symptom. It must be noted however that symptoms experienced don’t always point to depression, especially if the teen has only one or two symptoms. This may not indicate depression and thus one need only treat the symptom in isolation. Some of the other signs that may point to depression are frequent crying for no reason at all. Some sufferers can’t bear color and choose to wear black clothing. They show little or no interest in themselves and neglect their personal appearance and hygiene. Some of the physical symptoms not usually associated with depression but can occur frequently are dizziness, lightheadedness, back pains, headaches, feeling nauseous and having stomach aches. They may also talk about running away from home or following through with action. It is important to be vigilant and remember that it is better to be safe than sorry, so if you know someone who exhibits a number of symptoms described above, whether they are an adolescent or not, help them by seeking a health professional that can examine them and decide on a suitable course of action or medication that is appropriate for the diagnosis. Not only will storing your food correctly make it last longer, but it can also keep you healthier. Improperly storing foods can lead to harmful bacteria and spoilage. Let’s take a look at a few helpful tips to keep your foods fresh and lasting longer. Vegetables Keep your vegetables stored in the food crisper in your refrigerator. You can put all your vegetables in there except for tomatoes, onions, potatoes and garlic. Keep your potatoes, onions and garlic in dark place, or even in a paper bag, but not the refrigerator. You should keep your vegetables in plastic bags to hold their moisture and nutrients. You will also put tomatoes in a plastic bag after cutting them. Fruits Most people think they should leave apples sitting out on the table in a fruit bowl, but the truth is, they should be stored in the refrigerator. All types of berries should also be stored in the refrigerator. One fruit that should never be put in the refrigerator though is a banana. It will immediately turn black. Not a pretty sight. Melons, including watermelons, should be stored at regular room temperature until they become ripened. Once ripe they should then be stored in the refrigerator. The same can be said for grapes. Other citrus type fruits can be left outside at room temperature or kept in the refrigerator. It doesn’t really matter with these fruits. Frozen Foods When freezing leftover foods, be sure to put them in an airtight container, or Ziploc bag to maintain freshness. If you don’t, you will have ice crystals form and your foods will be freezer burnt. Meats, chicken and pork can also be put in the freezer to keep. Be sure you do not re-freeze these foods after thawing them out. You must use them after thawing, or throw them out. Milk And Dairy Items Naturally you will always store milk in the refrigerator, but be sure to keep an eye on the expiration date. Throw it out after the expiration date. Another good tip is to buy milk from the store with an expiration date well into the future. Look for gallon containers in the rear of the dairy shelves in the grocery store. They will have the latest expiration dates. It is also a good idea to check expiration dates on all your dairy items at least once a week. This includes eggs also. Meats Always keep fish, meats, chicken and pork in the refrigerator until you prepare them for eating. You want to make sure you keep these items wrapped and away from other foods in your refrigerator to prevent bacteria and keep them from contaminating other foods. One important tip to keep in mind is that fish should be eaten within two days of purchase. Other Items Keep your canned foods in a pantry that is cool and dark. This includes cereals, oils, breads and pasta. Food storage certainly is not difficult, but it does require a little bit of attention on your part. Easy weight loss is a distant promise to the average dieter. The reason easy weight loss diets tend not to work isnt because they arent nutritionally sound (although many diets lack the necessary nutrition) but because they deprive us. Human beings are not very good at resisting temptation and when you arent allowed to eat starch or sugar, it suddenly begins to look even more appealing! Many easy weight loss diets require such drastic reduction of portion size, that the average overweight person is still hungry after eating a meal. Resisting hunger pangs is difficult enough, but when more food is right in front of you, as it is everywhere in our society, the temptation is pretty much irresistible. Easy weight loss becomes impossible when faced with the stomach-twisting pangs of hunger. So, how do you achieve easy weight loss? Without the deprivation and starvation? With the rule of three diet! The idea behind this easy weight loss diet is not deprivation but balance. You can eat whatever you wish, but it must be part of a balanced meal. This way your body gets all the nutrients it needs, not just empty calories. No matter what you feel like eating, you include a same-size portion of two other foods, a protein and a fruit or vegetable usually. For example, lets say you are dying for a slab of chocolate cake. So, how does the easy weight loss rule of three work? Sweet foods and fatty snacks tend to cause your body to release a blast of insulin. The sudden rise in insulin, followed by the sudden drop of the same can cause you to feel hungry and want to eat more, as well as stimulating the body to store the food as fat. Eating a protein like chicken, cheese or tofu, balances out the glycemic levels of your body. The only trick is to eat it at the same time as the fattening food. It is impossible not to eat sugars at some point and the addition of a protein balances out the potential damage of that chocolate bar you just inhaled. By adding a fruit or vegetable, you automatically balance out your nutrition and you cant help but feel full and satisfied after consuming three different types of food! Easy weight loss is within reach. You might start your diet off by eating the same amount as before, but as your body adjusts to a new method, youll find yourself eating less of the sweet, fatty stuff because you feel full and satisfied.
