Church Wedding or Somewhere Else?

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

By Lesley-Ann Graham Depending on your faith or religion, you may wish to get married in your place of worship, and married by the priest or rabbi that has counseled you all the years you were growing up. After all, this is where you were baptized, had your first communion or barmitzvah. On the other hand, you may be getting married to someone outside your faith and you have to be considerate of your future spouse’s wishes; or you may have chosen a destination wedding so of course, unless you transfer the synagogue, it won’t be in a church. Add this to your list of wedding preparations, if you haven’t yet: check the church availability. If you are getting married away from your parish, you will need to check who can officiate at your nuptials and if you can be married at your preferred place. Some religions have an absolute rule that you can only get married at their registry. Others may be quite open to marrying you in the middle of ocean or desert. If you are marrying a person of a different faith, you may have to decide which of you will change religion and choose your venue accordingly based on your choice. The marriage ceremony may have some changes as well because of the beliefs of your chosen faith. For example, in certain faiths such as the Iglesia ni Cristo, instead of the seating being based on whether you are a friend of the bride or groom, the seating may strictly be all men on the left and all the women on the right. Keep in mind that like everything else in your wedding, the choice of venue is about merging your lives and spreading the joy. Make your choice together as a couple and let your ceremony be a meaningful one. Fears of a New Relationship

Friday, October 19th, 2007

By Margaret Paul, Ph.D. Katie had not been in a relationship in ten years, and she was scared to death. In her last relationship, she had lost herself completely and then felt devastated when her boyfriend of three years left her for another woman. After working on herself emotionally and spiritually for a number of years, Katie, now 48, felt she was ready for a new relationship. So she joined an online dating service and promptly met Sean, who seemed too good to be true. Warm, compassionate, intelligent, and also on a personal and spiritual growth path, Sean, 55, was an available man! Now Katies fears that she would not meet someone turned to fears of being in a relationship again. Katie had learned how to take loving care of herself when she was alone or with friends, but doing this with a man was another matter. She had never actually taken care of herself in any of her relationships, and she was very worried that she would let herself down again. Katie wanted some guidelines regarding loving actions she could take for herself as she started to explore the relationship with Sean, and she wrote to me asking me for these loving actions. So here they are some loving actions to take when first exploring a new relationship: 1. Stay focused inside your own body, noticing your own feelings rather than just being tuned into the other persons feelings. Stay conscious of NOT taking responsibility for the others persons feelings of worth or security, and NOT making the other person responsible for your feelings of worth or security. 2. Make a solid decision before getting together with the other person that you are willing to lose the other person rather than lose yourself. Make a conscious decision to NOT make the other persons wants, needs and feelings more important than your own. 3. Stay clear on your own truth, NOT letting the other person talk you in or out of what feels good and right for you. 4. Be willing to take full, 100% responsibility for behaving in a way that makes you feel worthy, safe and powerful. Be willing to be who you really are rather than trying to impress. Make a conscious decision that being in integrity with who you really are, is more important than getting the other persons approval. 5. Do NOT disregard the big or small things that you find difficult, intolerable or unacceptable. If something is unacceptable or intolerable to you early in the relationship, the chances are that it is not going to get better. Do NOT convince yourself that, because there are so many good things about this person, you can overlook the problems or get the other person to change. This NEVER works! Fears of rejection can emerge very early in a relationship. Some people are terrified of doing something wrong and being rejected, because they make they other person responsible for their feelings of worth and lovability. The fear of rejection can lead a person to give him/herself up to the other person, thereby touching off fears of engulfment of loving oneself and being controlled or consumed by the other person. Thus, fears of loss loss of self or loss of other often surface quickly and people find themselves either giving in or pulling away in their efforts to protect themselves from their fears. If you allow fear to guide you, you will likely either pull away or end up in an unsatisfying relationship. The most important thing to remember as you move into exploring a new relationship is: LET LOVE BE YOUR GUIDE, NOT FEAR. This means that you need to be open to learning about what is most loving to YOU what is really in your highest good rather than trying to have control over not being rejected or controlled by the other person. So, number six is: 6. Keep asking your inner wisdom, What is the loving action toward myself right now? What is in my highest good right now? If you keep asking this vital question, you will find your way through exploring a new relationship without losing yourself and without getting hurt by the other person. Europe Shrinks from Health-Religion Research

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

By Kevin Ferguson Europes greatest continental divide the chasm between scientific research and theology has begun to close, as scores of university institutes and medical associations from Arkhangelsk to Zurich are gathering to see how the two fields might help each other. The movement, though, is at a glacial pace, as an increasingly secular Western Europe and a post-communist Eastern Europe continue to resist any efforts that smack of church and state collaboration. Croatias University of Zagreb Medical School is typical. Candid discussions concerning religion and medical science take place but never in a formal research environment, said Lucija Fabijanic, a medical student who recently graduated from the school. Some medical doctors do speak about this topic, but it is mainly not acknowledged by the university and hospital staff, said Fabijanic. From the medical point of view, I understand that after a long era of communism a lot of people still think that religion is something personal and that it has nothing to do with science and medicine. Similarly, in Swedens Karolinska Institutet, where 40 percent of the countrys medical academic research is conducted, religion and science are only rarely mentioned in the same breath. Of the 2,814 dissertations published since 1995, only half a dozen mention the words together, and only two a 2005 study on Islams perpetuation of female genital mutilation in Sudan, and a 2000 paper on mortality and injury rates in Northern and Western Europe look at religion with more than a passing glance. Across Europe, empirical research has been conducted primarily in the areas of mental health and ethnography. In both cases, though, the research has taken place in isolated institutional pockets and with little academic or media fanfare. Most European researchers, instead, host symposia, satisfied to conduct what is often among the first science-and-religion dialogues in their institution or country. In many instances, the discussions are funded by Metanexus Institutes Local Societies Initiatives, or LSI. Metanexus, in turn, is funded by the John Templeton Foundation, which also funds Science & Theology News. For example, Austrias Universitt Innsbruck, an LSI grant recipient, has formed a society called The Complementarity of Science and Theology within the prestigious Austrian Academy of Science. The society, chaired by renowned mathematical physicist Walter Thirring, aims to study the concept and meaning of life. But to date its been all talk and no research. The same holds true in former Soviet states. At Ukraines National University in Kharkiv, philosophy professor Ivan Tsekhmistro chairs a newly formed, and LSI-funded, East-Ukrainian Center of Science and Religion. Its charge, he said, is to eradicate communisms legacy of aggressive atheism in the public consciousness and in the sphere of interrelations between science and religion. And while Tsekhmistro has written extensively on the subject in June delivering his most recent paper, Scientific Picture of the Word in the Last 25 Years, at the Metanexus Institute in Philadelphia the university center offers no empirical research. Likewise, in 2002, Estonias University of Tartu founded the Collegium of Science and Religion to revive the tradition of science and faith dialogue that was forgotten during half a century of imposed atheism, according to its mission statement. The LSI-funded collegium has long-term plans to conduct empirical studies, but immediate plans only include seminars, colloquiums and college courses. Given the centuries-old struggle between science and religion to define European culture, the research torpor is understandable, said Harald Walach, editor of Swiss research journal, Forschende Komplementrmedizin und Klassische Naturheilkunde (Research in Complementary and Classical Natural Medicine). What has to be borne in mind historically is the fact that especially for Germany there are great fears of intellectuals and academics of the culture and the political stage being again hijacked by ideology, as happened during the Nazi regime, said Walach. Indeed, Adolph Hitler insisted to the very end that his actions were inspired by providence. Hence, the connotation of religion and any official institution, such as politics and academia, does not go down well in European culture, understandably so. That has certainly been true in the Netherlands, where academia often recoils from the authoritarian habits and influence of organized religion. This criticism prevented the approval ofefforts to study the subject scientifically, said Dr. Arjan Braam, a researcher at Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam. The criticism has softened noticeably in the Netherlands since the mid-1980s, thanks largely to the prolific Braams research. One of his oft-cited papers, published in 2004 in the Journal of Aging and Health, involves a six-year study of prayer and depressive symptoms in older Dutch adults. The study of 1,840 adults, aged 55 to 85, found that church attendance and religious inclinations eased the symptoms of depression. The interest on the subject of religion and health is increasing, but slowly, said Braam, who chaired a symposium on prayer and depressive symptoms, at the 13th World Congress of Psychiatry, held last September in Cairo, Egypt. Also in the Netherlands, the Catholic Study Centre for Mental Health, acts as a clearinghouse for scientists conducting primary and secondary research on mental health and religion. Although founded in 1972, the lions share of its work has been done in the past five years. As of 2005, the Catholic center counted more than 2,400 members and benefactors from mental and physical health care, spiritual and pastoral care, the churches, social services, and education, according to its Web site. Barriers are falling in Switzerland as well. For example, the University Hospital of Geneva recently investigated the importance of religion as a coping mechanism for psychiatric patients. The study found that clinicians dealing with psychotic patients might neglect religious issues, even if religion may constitute an important means of coping, said Sylvia Mohr, the hospital researcher who led the study. Half the clinicians perceptions of patients religious involvement were inaccurate, Mohrs team found, even though a majority of the patients reported that religion was an important aspect of their lives. Mohrs biggest surprise, though, came before she interviewed the first patient: Our research was welcomed, she said. Mohr had anticipated stiff resistance, particularly from clinicians. Instead, the hospital and its ethics committee gave the study their blessing, and only 3 percent of the patients declined to participate. From my experience, I think the most powerful resistance is in researchers minds, she said. And now that Mohr has overcome her resistance, what will it take to gain widespread European acceptance of such research? The only way to change this is good science, said Walach. Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

By Cindy Boswell You must have definitely heard about peppermint and even consumed it also as in chewing gums, candies, medicines etc. The uses are vast, but the benefits and advantages are still unknown to many. Many of us are rarely aware of this fact that the peppermint that we consume is actually a result of peppermint oil that is made from peppermint plant. Peppermint oil can influence your life in several ways and as a result it has become an indispensable part of aromatherapy. Peppermint oil is basically made from peppermint plant that is mostly found in central and southern Europe. Peppermint has a vast use in medical science and is regarded as the worlds oldest medicine. Peppermint oil like other spices and herbs has great medicinal properties. It has been used for years to clam digestion as it is an excellent digestive aid. Just a few drops in a glass of water make it a refreshing drink that has not only a good taste but also improves digestion. When consumed, it fights against upset stomachs, stops the growth of unnecessary bacteria and calms and relaxes the muscles. Peppermint oil abandons gas, bloating and abdominal cramps and increases the formation of digestive fluids. Peppermint has high menthol content and is thus used as a flavoring in tea, confectionery, chewing gum, toothpaste, ice-cream etc. The moment you inhale the mint, you feel a cool breathe through your nasal that calms the smooth muscles of stomach, intestines and uterus. Peppermint also has analgesic properties. That means it can also relieve you from pain and aches. You can also find peppermint oil in soaps, shampoos, body massage oil, creams, lotions and body gel etc. that give you a minty scent and produce a cooling agent that soothes your mind and body. After knowing the benefits of peppermint oil, its time now to try it. Are you wondering how can you get cheap and good quality peppermint oil? Do not worry. You have the easiest and the most convenient way to buy i.e. internet. There are a number of online shops where you can get lots of new variety of peppermint oil and its products. Visit websites and you will definitely find your product with the best price. Also you need not worry about the delivery of these goods as they are delivered in a very short time and in some cases you may also not be charged any shipping costs. Los Angeles Business Lawyers

By Damian Sofsian Business cases are often more profitable and less risky than other cases. A business lawyer focuses on the successful establishment and long-term profitability of businesses. Thrilled With My New Nextel Cell Phone

Saturday, October 13th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Christopher_Luck]Christopher Luck A few months back I left my old cell phone behind in the stone age. Its amazing how fast these techno toys get out of date. I looked around on the web and in a few shopping mall stores to get a bit of information and decided to go with the Nextel cell phone service. Not only was the girl I talked to more informative then the restretail service is so hit and miss these daysbut their network as a whole seemed to offer better things. From their website I learned about their actual cellular networknot that thats the right word anymore. Right now the Nextel cell phone network is one hundred percent digital making the original cellular technology nothing more than a catchy pop culture word. This makes connections faster, clearer and more powerful. It also makes it easy for them to be up to date with all the latest data features that have come along and that will continue to evolve in the future. The cool thing about Nextel cell phones is that they have walkie-talkie features built into them making connecting to other network users a breeze. Not only does the package I got allow me unlimited use of this feature, but connection through the walkie-talkie is instant. That means no number dialing, phone ringing and waiting for the person to pick up. All I have to do to reach my best friendwho I convinced to buy a Nextel cell phone with meis push a button and talk. No real mystery there, it works pretty much like any other walkie-talkie. Like most other phones around these days, Nextel cell phones have web access built into them. What I liked though was the simplicity of how their internet access was designed. I never thought Id be the kind of person whod read the news and send emails through my phone but their setup was good enough that it got me trying it out. Now I use it all the time when Im on the bus or just needing to check something when Im running around. My favorite feature offered through the Nextel cell phone services is their organizational tools. I have always hated entering new names and numbers through the keypad and never enjoyed using my phone as my only accessible address book. As long as you have a Nextel cell phone though you can use their Mynextel address book application. This thing is totally web based and allows you to manage all your contacts on a computerwhich is so much easierand then view them on your phone whenever its needed. For one thing this allows me to make changes anywhere and have them instantly appear on [http://www.pearlvalleypress.com/category/technology-reviews]my nextel phone and on whatever computer I end up using. Better still, it lets me have access to information I never would have bothered entering in a phone before, like email addresses and birthdays. All in all Im loving this thing and have been convincing everyone I know to join the network. While the service is good as a single user, the more people I can walkie-talkie the better! 20 Gas & Electric Money Savings Tips

Friday, October 12th, 2007

By Tyrannus Rolle Did you get sticker shock when you opened your last utility bill? If you did, you’re not alone. People have reported huge increases in their energy bills. My gas bill went up about 40%, so I decided to make my home more energy efficient. You would be surprised just how much you can lower your utility bills by taking a few of these simple steps. Here are 20 quick and easy tips: Close the heating vents. Closing the heating vents or radiators in an unoccupied room can save 5-10% on your heating costs. Close the fireplace flue. Don’t let heat go up the chimney. Make sure the fireplace flue is closed when not in use. Turn off the pilot light. A pilot light typically costs $3-$5 per month to keep lit. If your heating system has a pilot light, turn it off during the summer. Fix that leaking faucet. A faucet leaking a single drip per second can waste 400 gallons of water a year. Besides being a tremendous environmental waste, if that water is heated it will cost you about $8 if you heat with electricity, $4 if you heat with natural gas - plus the cost of the water itself. Replace old shower heads. According to federal regulations, new shower heads can pass no more than 2.5 gallons per minute. By replacing old shower heads with new ones, a family of four can save around 15,000 gallons of water per year, which amounts to savings of over $150 and $60 for electric and gas heated water respectively. Keep the refrigerator door closed. Shut the fridge! Opening the refrigerator door accounts for $10 - $20 of a typical family’s electrical bill each year based on 40-60 openings per day. Provide adequate circulation for the refrigerator. Allow at least one inch of space on each side of the refrigerator for good circulation. Poor circulation can increase electricity consumption by 10%. Keep your refrigerator cool. A 5 F difference in air temperature can impact your refrigerator electricity consumption by 20%. To reduce your refrigerator’s work, keep spare refrigerators in the coolest part of the house, like the basement. Turn your computer off. You could be spending well over $100 per year on electricity by always leaving your computer on! Turn it off when it’s not in use. Set your thermostat at 78 F. The breeze from a fan can provide you with the comfort of temperature that is 6 F cooler. Also, during the summer, each degree that you raise the thermostat on your cooling system typically saves 2% on your cooling bill. Energy experts recommend setting your thermostat at 78 F or higher. Keep your light fixtures clean. Dirt can absorb as much as half of the light given off by fixtures, tubes and bulbs. Keep your light fixtures clean and use less electricity. Use compact fluorescent light bulbs. Use light bulbs that produce the most light using the least amount of electricity. Energy-efficient bulbs, such as compact fluorescent bulbs, use 75% less energy than typical incandescent bulbs. Turn the lights off. Don’t just leave the lights on. Lighting controls provide security lighting when you are not home - with clock timers you can turn lights in your home on and off automatically at preset times. Timers, motion sensors and photo sensors are all ways to save electricity use. Plant some trees. Deciduous trees, which lose their leaves in the winter, can help you reduce your energy costs during the summer because their foliage provides shade. And in the winter, after their leaves have fallen, the sun’s warmth passes unobstructed into your home. Strategically placed shrubs and vines can also reduce the effect of the sun’s heat. Leave the thermostat alone. If you must use air-conditioning, don’t turn the thermostat lower thinking it will cool your home faster. It won’t. Keep your thermostat cool. Keep appliances that give off heat, like stereos and televisions, away from your thermostat-the hot air will persuade your cooling system to work harder. Insulate your attic. Adding fiberglass insulation to your attic is one of the most effective and easy savings measures you can take yourself. Also, insulating air ducts or pipes can conserve up to 10% of their heat. Keep your kitchen cool. Use a fan to draw hot air out of your kitchen when cooking. The savings in your cooling costs far outweigh the electricity use of the fan. Keep your dryer clean. Don’t overload your clothes dryer. And make sure you clean the lint filter after every load. An overloaded dryer and a dirty filter, which reduces airflow, make the dryer work harder. Dry loads consecutively to take advantage of heat build-up. If possible, line dry clothes. Run a full dishwasher. Cut out pre-rinsing, load dishes according to the dishwasher manufacturer’s instructions, and use only recommended amounts of dish washing detergent. Only run the washer when it’s full - your dishwasher uses the same amount of water regardless of how many dishes are in it. Air-dry dishes when possible. Phentermine Facts - How Phentermine Works In Your Body

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

Working of the Phentermine depends on various factors such as age, sex, physical conditions and the mental behavior of the individual. Feeling Sluggish? Try A Colonic Cleanse

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

By Lee Dobbins A colonic cleanse can clear the body of unwanted toxins that have accumulated due to environmental pollution as well as the poor eating habits of our society. Each day industrial poisons enter our bodies and they are not always eliminated. These accumulated poisons can be the source of many different diseases and a colonic cleanse eliminates them before they can become a problem. Many of these poisons are found in processed foods. They slowly build up in the intestines and create a barrier which prevents the normal absorption of healthy nutrients by the body. This results in lower energy levels and higher risk levels for disease. A colonic cleanse will rid the intestines of this barrier and will result in higher energy levels and a general feeling of well-being. The colon will let you know when it needs a colonic cleanse. Some of the symptoms of a clogged or dirty colon are such diseases as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), gas, bloating, stomach pain, and chronic fatigue. If you have tried other methods to eliminate these problems and nothing works, then try a colonic cleanse. Theres a very real possibility that a colonic cleanse will eliminate most if not all of these symptoms. Not only will a colonic cleanse help eliminate the above mentioned symptoms and diseases it will also help eliminate such problems as constipation, parasites, bad breath, headaches, irritability, hemorrhoids, ulcerative colitis, colon cancer, and frequent colds. If this sounds like a miracle drug, its not. A colonic cleanse merely allows the body to do what its suppose to do, i.e. properly digest and assimilate nutrients from the foods we eat. Without this proper digestion and absorption of food the body can not function correctly. Thus a colonic cleanse aids the body in doing what it is supposed to do. It is estimated that the average adult human being has between five to forty pounds of waste in their bowels and it is this waste that a colonic cleanse eliminates. There are several ways to go about cleaning the colon one of the ways is through an enema. An enema inserts water or some other liquid through the rectum into the lower bowel. It is effective in eliminating constipation but does not necessarily cleanse the entire colon. Another and some think more effective way of handling a colonic cleanse is through herbal supplements. A common herbal supplement is psyllium based, and although it will help you empty your bowels it does not necessary clear away any barriers that have built up over time. This is also true of laxatives which can cause dehydration and other problems. A colonic cleansing diet is yet another way to cleanse the colon. Eliminating sugars, fast foods, and processed foods and adding fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and the healthy oils such as olive oil to your diet will help the intestines process the incoming nutrients and flush away accumulated toxins in the colon. As you can see, a colonic cleanse is a necessary part of any wellness plan, the only thing you have to do is decide which colonic cleanse is the best one for you.
